Welcome to the Ear & Auditory Research Laboratory at Dalhousie University.

Our research facility is located in Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, Canada. The lab is in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, and is affiliated with the Division of Otolaryngology at Capital Health.

Our research is unique in Canada and includes the areas of middle ear microanatomy, pathophysiology, micromechanics, surgical reconstruction, finite element modeling, middle ear hearing mechanics, innovative hearing technologies, and auditory recordings.

Our main goal is to improve existing hearing reconstruction methods, and develop new prostheses.

Autumn 2009

The article Cholesteatoma in three dimensions: a teaching tool and an aid to improved pre-operative consent.
written by Dr. David P. Morris DP and Rene G. van Wijhe was published in the Journal of Laryngology & Otology.

Summer 2009

Dr. Vivek Kaushik started his Fellowship in Otology and Neurotology in July.

The first annual ENT day in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia organized by Dr. Maky hafidh wasa great succes.

2nd International Symposium Bone Conduction Hearing – Craniofacial Osseointegration in Sweden was very interesting. Both members of the Sense Lab and Ear-lab went to Gothenburg. For some images click here.

Autumn 2008

Dr. David Peter Morris submitted his thesis: The Effects of Coupling Interfaces in Prosthetic Hearing Reconstruction of the Human Middle Ear. This in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Medicine, which, in the United Kingdom, is a postgraduate research degree in medicine analogous to a PhD.

The article: Linearity and lever ratio of the normal and reconstructed cadaveric human middle ear. written by
Dr. Osama Majdalawieh et. al. was accepted and published in Otology Neurotology.
